Armed with only a frying pan and her common sense, young witch-to-be Tiffany Aching must defend her home against the monsters of Fairyland. Luckily she has some very unusual help: the local Nac Mac Feegle—aka the Wee Free Men—a clan of fierce, sheep-stealing, sword-wielding, six-inch-high blue men.

Together they must face headless horsemen, ferocious grimhounds, terrifying dreams come true, and ultimately the sinister Queen of the Elves herself. . . .

The five funny and fabulous Tiffany Aching adventures are:

I think we must be , mistresses Weatherwax and Ogg are here and they are from Lancre, so it seems like good old Discworld. Sir Terry has done yet another masterful job of creating characters, ones I would like to sit in a pub with, around a fire with, or out with ship on the meadows with. They are very different from Capt. Carrot or Sam Vimes or Nobby Nobbs, but no less fascinating. I am reading these books before sending them to my 10 year old twin granddaughters, I trust and hope they can find that there ideas about witches might need some serious rethinking. Well, both may yet qualify for a bit of witchcraft. Great books are characterized by the feeling of regret I feel when coming to the end of them.I certainly regret finishing these books. Wonderful reads.

Stumbled across this series on iBooks, never read any Pratchet books before. Excellent young adult fiction, the kind that's a great read for us "old adults" as well. Reminds me a bit of Piers Anthony's Xanth novels, and Harry Potter fans will enjoy Tiffany Aching as well. Pratchet writes great characters- the Feegles will have you laughing out loud. I quickly read the rest of the Tiffany Aching books- Hat Full of Sky, Wintersmith, and I Shall Wear Midnight. Now I'll have to start in on the other books in the Diskworld series : )
  • Loved it!! (I knew I would)

I'm a big Pratchett fan in general, but I'm particularly fond of the Lancre witches. I was a little nervous about a young addition to their world. I should have known better, though! Pratchett treats Tiffany with the same respect he treats his best characters; taking her seriously enough to make her and her adventures three dimensional, but best of all, really funny.

Out of roughly 700-1000 books I have read in my 20 years, this one has really stuck with me. I first read it in high school, and I never truly forgot it. Now several years later (including my first years of college) I picked up a digital copy for my I pad. I have not regretted doing so. Out of the books vie read, this one and this grouped with 30 others. THATS how good I think it is. The Wee Free Men is a book about a young girl learning what it means to grow up and taking responsibility. Also the musings that she goes through during the story are so logical yet still original that they make the story just that much more interesting. "If something was magic before, but then you learn how it was done, dose not make it stop being magic" Paraphrasing, but you get the idea. Stuff like that crops up all through the book.
  • Great for all ages.

Classic Pratchett, a bit less complicated for the younger reader.
