Description

THE FIRST NOVEL IN THE NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING OTHERWORLD SERIES.

“Frisky...Tells a rather sweet love story, and suggests that being a wolf may be more comfortable for a strong, smart woman than being human.”—The New York Times Book Review

Elena Michaels seems like the typically strong and sexy modern woman, She lives with her architect boyfriend, writes for a popular newspaper, and works out at the gym. She's also a werewolf.

Elena has done all she can to assimilate to the human world, but the man whose bite changed her existence forever—and his legacy—continue to haunt her. Thrown into a desperate war for survival that tests her allegiance to a secret clan of werewolves, Elena must reckon with who, and what, she is...

I found out about this book series and author through the television series Bitten, loved it so much that I had to pick up the book feeling I would get more information and details that way and wasn't disappointed. Of course there are differences between books and their televised versions, one being that I was a bit surprised at the main female leads personality being she wasn't as strong physically or mentally but reading her go through her struggles of finding herself and what she wants was I thought a good process. The main male lead, he was swoon worthy material much more personal in the book compared to the television series, supporting characters are amusing and fun. Very intriguing plot and the details involved, I very much enjoyed this first book and am off to read the next.

Loved the book and now the show is on Netflix! Elena is torn between being human with her boyfriend or her werewolf life with her ex. Love it.

This is the second time I've read this and it still as good as the first time. Love Kelley Armstrong.
  • Good story but not well told

I enjoyed the story with its assortment of interesting characters, fast moving plot with many twists and turns, and overall well-written prose. I didn't like the protagonist so much, but what annoyed me most about the book is the way the story is told mostly through internal narration. Example: during a fight scene, the narrator writes "I won't detail the first, partly because it would be a boring recitation of hit, jab, grunt, stumble, recover..." WHAT? It's only boring if you write it like that! This style of narrating an event without living out the scene happens repeatedly, and I found I was bored with the summaries of events that happened all too often. Still, there are enough actual scenes that I kept reading to the end. I hear the author improves with later books, so I might try another, but not in any rush.

I had a lot of hope for this book. As a huge fan of all things supernatural, I came looking for a new author to sink my teeth into. To be honest, had this been almost any other subject matter (besides my beloved monsters), I would have just flat stopped reading. There was not a single character in this book that I cared for or felt any personal connection to. This book could have easily been 300 pages or less and been the much better for it. Having it drag on for 515 is just mean. Perhaps one star is too harsh because I will give the author one more chance. (Did I mention I'm a sucker for monsters?). This was her first book so I am desperately hoping her very raw talent has been greatly refined in one of her more recent series.

Good book. Lots of action, steamy sex and a not so predictable plot with a happy ending.
  • The series gets better!

This was not my favorite of her books...the lines are super cheesy. But don't stop the series because Armstrong gets sssooo much better!

A great read! This is the start of the women of the otherworld saga. Once you start reading this series you will want to finish it. Bitten deals with werewolves but they aren't the only supernatural creatures in this series there are witches,vampires,half-demons, and others. Loved this story! Good storyline and it continues through the series.
