Description

All Maggie Acker ever wanted was to have a family of her own. Now, with her handsome, hardworking husband, Josh, and two adorable twin boys from his previous marriage, she is determined to be the wife and mother Josh’s ex-wife failed to be.

But when one of the twins has a near-fatal health scare and is later diagnosed with diabetes, Maggie blames herself for not seeing the signs sooner. As the rest of the family slowly learns to live with the diagnosis, Maggie fights to gain control of her son’s health. Coupled with a major career change for Josh, their marriage teeters on the brink of destruction.

When Maggie’s family sends the couple away for a much-needed vacation, a life-rocking argument is followed by terrifying news regarding their son. Will Maggie’s childhood dreams of love and family disappear before she realizes the treasure she’d had right in front of her?

This is Book 2 in The Orchard House Bed and Breakfast Series, a contemporary twist on the well-loved classic, Little Women. Readers will fall in love with the Martin family—Maggie, Josie, Lizzie, Bronson, Amie, and their mother Hannah—each trying to find their own way in the world and each discovering that love, home, and hope are closer than they appear.

Real life trials and how to survive and prosper are revealed. There are two brittle diabetics in our family so this situation is very relatable!

Where Hope Begins by Heidi Chiavaroli is an excellent fictional novel that is the second book in the amazing series titled: An Orchard House Bed and Breakfast (the first being Where Grace Appears). This series is a contemporary twist and adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women. This follow up book is just as great as the first. I loved being able to visit the Martin family in Camden again. The last book focussed on Josie, as well as introducing us to the extended family, and this book features Maggie, her husband Josh Acker, and his children from his previous marriage. The narrative delves into the complicated dynamics between the marriage Maggie and Josh, their own respective inner struggles, and the relationships of the parents and the twins. Throw in a job change and life-altering medical diagnoses, and the reader can quickly see that Maggie has her hands full. The beauty of the book comes not from the obstacles and the complications, but the love, honesty, forgiveness, support, hope, promise, and faith that is introduced. The reader is able to find rays of sunshine and optimism from the inclusion of the wonderful family and their respective additions. The support system is wonderful. The author also has a true talent in creating realistic, likable, complex, and truly remarkable characters. I am always impressed with the character cast that is developed and presented within each book. Just wonderful. I loved the pacing, the plot, the transitions, the transformations that the characters exhibit throughout the book and in the face of adversity, and the positive changes and resolutions that result. The ending is perfect, and I truly enjoyed the uplifting message and promise that I felt when I finished. Truly a gem of a novel and I cannot wait until the next installment: Where Love Grows that comes out later this year. The sneak peak is truly wonderful and is right up my alley! I cannot recommend this book enough! 5/5 stars
