Description

This is the classic written by C. S. Lewis as a dedication to his dear friend J. R. R. Tolkien. A masterpiece of satire, The Screwtape Letters has entertained and enlightened readers the world over with its sly and ironic portrayal of human life from the vantage point of Screwtape, a highly placed assistant to "Our Father Below". At once wildly comical, deadly serious, and strikingly original, C. S. Lewis presents to us the correspondences of the worldly-wise old devil, Screwtape, to his nephew Wormwood, a novice demon in charge of securing the damnation of an ordinary young man. The Screwtape Letters is the most engaging and humorous account of temptation - and triumph over it - ever written.

This edition includes the hilarious and enlightening sequel, Screwtape Proposes a Toast, where the scene is in Hell at the annual dinner of the Tempters’ Training College for young Devils. Screwtape, who is the guest of honour, rises up to propose a toast.

‘The book is sparkling yet truly reverent, in fact a perfect joy, and should become a classic.’
- The Guardian
‘Excellent, hard-hitting, challenging, provoking.’
- The Observer

Reviews

  • Very awesome

What an awesome book. The pure depiction of lower demons and higher demons alone was enough to make me jump for joy a bit. But once I began to delve in I instantly became mesmerized and capitivated through the poetic, deep, and structured work. Midway through I began to self reflect a bit but more so heed the morality of the piece. Not bad

C.S Lewis is obviously a great writer. His wisdom and views are shown clearly in his work. Many interesting topics were raised however I didn’t agree with all he wrote . Nevertheless, it was somewhat an interesting read. Something to get you thinking and maybe a little bit for entertainment.
  • A Twist

A book with a twist. To see the other side. To see how they think. To see how they see. Interesting read from the legend himself.

  • I was so confused

    By totally stoked about Jesus
So many have read these letters and talk about them; I was lost and didn’t enjoy them at all! I had a hard time Turing myself in the shoes of Screwtape or Wormwood. This was not my style
