Portland, Maine was my first place I visited in US! Nice place with a lot of fresh sea food shops. And of course lighthouses by the bay 🌊🌊🌊

Lmao, I didn't like Fort Lauderdale at all! Couldn't possibly disagree more. The water was nice. But over priced and nasty food, many rude people, tacky tourist shops, elitist beaches that not only don't allow dogs but no dogs on the sidewalk along the beach either. Playground for uncultured rich boat owners who have no idea they're eating bland food, lol.
Guess everyone has a different taste. I've lived in Seattle, all through North Carolina (Raleigh now), Atlanta, Virginia, and Iowa and traveled extensively through the whole country. Fort Lauderdale ironically given it's placement on this list has been one of the few places in the US I really didn't vibe with. Maybe I should give it another chance, but probably won't considering the prices.
Jackson Hole, WY is far from an "honorable mention". Would have thrown in Cripple Creek, CO as well for its history and quirkiness.

Big Sur, blah, head over to Lake Tahoe instead, then go get drunk in Reno. Atleast you can swim in Lake Tahoe without worrying about a rip tide or being accosted by some territorial land owner that lives next to a public beach and tries to lord over it like a troll.

Everyone goes to nyc and LA. Im bored of the tourist spots i wanna explore the real USA.
HOWEVER the way ppl describe those southern states to me is like its Alabama in the 1800’s. Absolute no-go-zone. Now im scared i might get lynched on sight and hung from the tallest tree in town. Or tied to the back of some hill billys pickup truck and dragged 20 miles further south till im all bone.
